Sew Advent 2016 - Picture Gallery

How wonderful to see the completed Sew Advents for 2016. I know that it didn't look much in the early days but I think the overall result was worth that daily stitch!

Scroll through the following pictures to see some lovely finishes

Brenda chose to stitch 1*1 on 32ct raw Belfast linen with the recommended NPI silk threads

Claudia (ever the rebel 😉) chose to 1*1 on 28ct Lakeside Exemplar with HDF Redwork Red. She had to adjust the church steeple so it didn't blend in with the tree - well done Claudia

Cornelia stitched 1*1 on 32ct Belfast linen in Amsterdam Blue with NPI silk threads

Dede tells me her fabric is from Picture this Plus but is now not available. Apparently it was a test piece and they decide against reproducing it - such a shame - the background looks like falling snow! She used DMC white plus threads from Victorian Motto Sampler

Judy (another rebel maybe? 😉) also went with all red thread albeit a variegated (DMC 115). Her fabric is Zweigart 32ct dirty linen. Judy shortened the steeple to avoid it blending into the tree

Mariko stitched 1*1 on 32ct Belfast in Spruce Blue using DMC threads and finished as a very pretty ornament

Mary stitched 1*1 on Wichelt 28ct in Nordic Blue using DMC threads B5200, 898, 444, 702 and 321

Melissa chose 40ct silk weave in Sapphire Sky with Mo's silk thread in red and green plus DMC threads

Melody stitched on 32ct Summer Breeze Hand Dyed Linen by Stephanie with silk threads

Last but certainly not least, Penny stitched not one but two versions! Her fabric was Smokey Pearl Cashel - her threads DMC. She hem-stitched both versions to finish.

What can I say? Each and every one of these Sew Advents are so beautiful that it would be very difficult to pick one out - so well done and thank you to the above ladies for allowing me to share their finishes on here.

Thank you too to all that took part in the SAL. If you have stitched and finished Sew Advent 2016 and would like to share your work, please send me a picture and details of fabric and threads used and I will post in another gallery.

Thanks for visiting - Happy New Year to you all
Take care

Ornaments

Two tiny ornaments I stitched this year.

The robin was for my new great-grand-daughter (eeeekkk - am I that old?) Primrose. This pattern was an online freebie but sorry I cannot remember where I found it. *Edited* pattern can be found *here* Thank you Annie! I added Primrose's name at the bottom. It's stitched 1*2 with NPI silk threads on 48ct nacre Gander linen.

The Merry Christmas was an adaptation of a Victoria Sampler freebie *here*   It is stitched on an unknown linen with NPI silk threads and Dentelles 80.

I am now stitching Beatrix Potter Birth Sampler 1 for Primrose but changing the blue thread to pink. I had planned on having this finished apart from the wording in time for her birth but she arrived 4 weeks early and then we were on vacation and then, before I looked around, it was time for Christmas stitching!

Primrose Anise Kent born on August 11, 2016  weighing 5lbs 12oz

I take this opportunity of wishing you all a Happy New Year!

Sew Advent 2016

The Sew Advent 2016 SAL is now finished and here is a picture of my finish. It is stitched 1*1 on 32ct Spruce Blue Belfast linen with NPI silk threads. The whole piece (including the hem-stitching) measures 4¼" x 4¼" but, of course if you stitch this over two linen threads it will be double the size. The Christmas charms are from Atelier Steekhes & Kruisjes *here*

Sew Advent 2016 is now available *here* or click on the CHARTS button on the sidebar

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year

I have some new and exciting new charts available shortly

Sew Advent 2016 - Day 16

iStitch Designs - Sew Advent 2016 - here we are at Day 16 where we find a snowy village being built! I have yet to add snow on the two trees and a teeny red bead for Rudolph's nose. I have decided on a hemstitch finish. Please visit iStitch Designs Facebook page (link on sidebar) where you will see other versions. Claudia and Judy have gone with red monochrome whilst others are following the colour threads as suggested although some are stitching on a raw linen rather than the blue. It's difficult to choose which one is my favourite - which do you like best?

As something a little different for the children this year I brought some wood tags, painted them with white acrylic paint edging them with a black Sharpie. Using rubbers stamps I printed mistletoe on those for the girls and stars for the boys. On the reverse I stamped Merry Christmas and wrote names and the year again with a fine tip permanent marker. I hand-twisted black No 12 perle cotton for the hangers and then added tiny black ribbon bows (one for each side). I was rather pleased with the result.  I have two stitched ones which have yet to be finished and will post these when they are done.

Sew Advent 2015

Robin recently sent me a picture of her finish of Sew Advent 2015 which won 1st place at the County Fair in the Counted Cloth - Christmas Category. The white frame that Robin chose is perfect to show off the white stitching. Thank you Robin for sharing your lovely finish.

I am now starting to think about a Sew Advent 2016! Do you think another Band Sampler or maybe something more in the lines of Sew Advent 2014? Anyone interested?

iStitch Designs

I received the above picture from my US distributor Michele at Stitching Pretty showing a compilation of four older iStitch Designs which she takes to trade shows. Isn't this pretty? All of these charts are still available *here* or click on the CHARTS button on the sidebar. Michele also tells me that Sew Rosie has made the Needlework Retailer magazine's new issue! I'm hoping she will scan the relevant page for me to see.

A birthday gift

Today I received a belated birthday gift from the lovely Brenda of Time 2 Xstitch - a beautifully stitched and finished project bag with a Parisian theme. The design is Sew Parisian stitched in one of my favourite shares of blue. Brenda also added a tiny beaded zipper fob with an Eiffel Tower charm. Thank you Brenda - I love it!

This design is still available *here* or click on the CHARTS button on the sidebar - look down the left sidebar and you will find a quick link to this design.

The weather has changed for the better in our little corner of the UK so it's nice to be able to get out in the garden with my Kindle. I have however worked on a new design - a sneak peek here:

I am a little undecided what fabric and floss to stitch the model with or, indeed, a name for it. Any suggestions welcome ...

Has it really been over a month?

Has it really been over a month since I posted? I do not know where the time goes to - however did I find time to work full-time?

I went to Stitch-n-Bitch on Wednesday evening and my friend Caroline showed me that she had stitched and finished Sew An Easter Needleroll for her grandson Ned to remind him of spending Easter with his grandparents! This is stitched and finished beautifully - well done Caroline!

My apologies for not posting the finishing tutorial for the needle roll. I forgot to take pictures when I finished my model and so had to stitch another design. I took step-by-step pictures and then messed up so I've have to stitch another. Luckily I was able to fudge my mess-up. I have nearly finished re-stitching yet another so hopefully it won't be too long for the tutorial to be ready.

I've also been busy working on a few new designs and so models need to be stitched.

Thanks for visiting and I hope to post a little more frequently - maybe with a few sneak peaks?
Take care

Sew an Easter Needleroll

Sew an Easter Needleroll to be released at Nashville and on iStitch Designs site on March 4. This can be pre-ordered now - email me - my address is on my profile.

As I stitched this twice I finished one as a needle roll and the other with picot hem-stitched (mice teeth 😃) teeny sampler. I am working on needle roll finishing instructions which will hopefully be ready for my Tutorials blog shortly.

Sew Rosie (in both red and pink) will also be released shortly. My French friend is stitching the pink version and my red version is on its way to her for a photoshoot as her photography skills are much better than mine!

Picot hem-stitching - Mice Teeth

Checking out Pinterest a few months back I came across a picture with a link to a picot hemstitching tutorial *here*. I haven't posted a picture as it's not mine to use but anyway I book-marked it and moved on. Later I saw that Soed Idee were doing a hem-stitching class *here* for 'Merklapje met muizentandjes' which translates to 'Sampler with mice teeth'! What a delightful expression. I worked out the cost of the class and travel but it was a little expensive but I knew I just had to learn how to do this 'mice teeth' hem. I emailed Simone who kindly gave me some help. By now it's Christmas and, of course, life got in the way.

After stitching iStitch Designs Sew Forget-Me-Not (details in the post dated January 31) I was wondering how to 'finish' it and thought again about this hem-stitching. I have been hem-stitching samplers for a few years so was not worried about trying something new. As you may or may not know I have a hem-stitching tutorial on my Tutorials blog *here* so I hem-stitched Sew Forget-Me-Not as per my tutorial but added a row of back-stitching with Dentelles 80 around the second 'box' where threads have been removed - you will need to look at my tutorial to understand this. The resulting hem-stitching looked like this:

It's nice but not quite what I was looking for so let's try again. After checking my box of unfinished samplers I found Sew FS 1837 which I designed a few years back but didn't release it. It is stitched on 48ct Nacre linen with AVAS 2925. I repeated the steps as for Sew Forget-Me-Not but then added the extra stitches but ... something was not quite right as instead of 'mice teeth' it just looks like a four-sided stitch border:

With Simone's help I discovered where I was going wrong so it was back to the drawing board or actually back to the box of unfinished samplers where I found a teeny sampler (design area approximately 2" x 1½") stitched 1*1 with a beautiful blue AVAS Soie Surfine on 32ct linen. Unfortunately I have no idea what this sampler is called or who the designer is although for some reason Sajou jumps to mind. If anyone knows the designer please let me know so that I can give them credit. I did the 'normal' hem-stitching adding the back stitches with No 12 Perle cotton as it was a lower count linen. This time all went well and the elusive 'mice teeth' appeared around the edge!

Thank you Simone for your help. I am sure I will be using this pretty finish again.

Thanks for visiting - I hope you haven't been too bored ;-)
Take care

Gifts and stitching

The postman delivered me some special gifts this past week:

Firstly this beautifully stitched and finished Halloweenies pillow and a summer scissor fob from my French friend. The Halloweenies pillow represents our dear little Hector and the scissor fob is to remind me of our wonderful summer breaks. Thank you dear friend - you know who you are!

For those of you who do not know this is Hector. He is, as you can see, disabled and is the sweetest little dog you can ever imagine! He belongs to our daughter so we are actually his 'grandparents' and we walk him often as possible. He has his own 'fan club' and we are always getting stopped by people asking after him. He is nine years old and has been on his 'wheelies' for five years now. Such a brave little soldier!

My second package contained (amongst other goodies for both the family and me) this lovely stitched Prairie Schooler Santa pillow. It came from Canton, Ohio - another dear friend - and although it arrived a little later for the holiday it is now displayed on my desk where it will remain until Christmas 2016! Who says we have to put our decorations away for the rest of the year? Thank you my sister from the US 😊

Those of you who follow my iStitch Designs Facebook page *here* you may have seen the sneak preview of Sew Forget-Me-Not but for those of you who don't do Facebook here it is. I have actually finished stitching this but need to do a final finish and I am a little undecided on how to finish it.

I am also working on the model for Sew Rosie. I originally planned on stitching this with pink roses but then thought red roses would be more apt for Valentines Day so now I will stitch this in both colour ways on different count linens. I have started Sew Rosie in red with Tudor Silks on 55t white linen and, once this is finished, there will be a pink rose version.

May I ask those of you who stitch iStitch Designs to post pictures with the materials used information on the iStitch Designs Facebook page.

Ornaments for the children

I took a quick snap of these ornaments with my iPhone before I gave them to the children so sorry for the awful picture. I had the idea of using the wood spools months ago and set to designing the bands for them. They are stitched 1*1 on 1¼" line banding using threads from my stash. I was originally going to put charms on one side and the bells on the other but putting bells on both sides made the balance better. I backed the stitched banding with iron on interfacing and then joined the bands covering the join with a tiny length of trim.  The children were pleased to think that these are the only 6 in the world!

There are two new iStitch Designs and I need to stitch the models so I guess that's what I shall be doing in the next few days.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Sew Advent 2015

Sew Advent 2015 SAL is now over and here is a picture of my finished piece. I had originally intended to stitch it on a natural banding but decided to use 32ct Blue Spruce Belfast linen and hemstitch it instead. I stitched it 1*1 so it's tiny - 2½" x 10" and I am very pleased with the result.  I have been asked about the Christmas charms displayed with it. They came from Atelier Steekjes & Kruisjes *here*

This design is now available *here* or click on the CHARTS button on the sidebar.

May I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year

Take care and see you in the New Year
